4. Modelová odpoveď
Fashion is the style of dress, and sometimes of behaviour, that is popular at a certain time. It matters to people because clothes represent their style and their way of life. Everybody has their own taste, and we choose what to wear according to our taste, our mood and the occasion — but almost everybody wants to look good.
Men's and women's fashion have always been different. Women wear skirts and dresses, make-up and high heels, and they generally pay far more attention to fashion than men. They buy fashion magazines, follow fashion shows and change their wardrobe according to the season's colours and patterns. Men's fashion changes far more slowly and men usually care more about comfort than about the latest trend.
Fashion has changed enormously. A hundred years ago women could not wear trousers at all; they wore long skirts and stiff corsets, which must have been terribly uncomfortable, and they always wore their hair long. Men wore hats and suits, and moustaches were popular. Skirts became shorter in the nineteen-twenties, and today women's and men's fashion have grown much closer together — women wear trousers, jeans and even ties without anybody finding it strange.
As for my own wardrobe, it is fairly simple. I have jeans and several pairs of trousers, T-shirts, shirts, a couple of jumpers and hoodies, and underwear and socks. For the winter I have an anorak, a woolly hat, a scarf and gloves, and for the summer shorts and a swimsuit. On my feet I usually wear trainers, because I like sport and they are comfortable, but I also have proper shoes and winter boots. I own one suit with a tie, and I wear it only when I really have to — at a wedding, at a family celebration, and of course at the maturita exam.
The clothes we wear also depend on the material and the occasion. Cotton and linen are pleasant in summer because they let the skin breathe, wool keeps us warm in winter, and silk is elegant but expensive. Patterns can be plain, striped, checked, spotted or flowered, and whatever you choose, the colours should be well combined. For work, for school or for an official event people wear formal clothes; for everyday life casual wear; and for sport, sportswear.
The weather and the climate influence fashion a great deal. In summer people wear light dresses, loose blouses, shorts, T-shirts and sandals, they use lighter materials and brighter colours such as yellow, white and orange, and when they go swimming they put on a swimsuit or swimming trunks and often a straw hat. In winter we have to protect ourselves against the cold, so we wear anoraks or winter coats, jumpers, gloves, scarves, hats and boots, and people usually choose darker colours, partly because the melting snow on the roads makes everything dirty.
As for my own attitude, I would not call myself a fashionable person. I like casual and sports clothes because they are comfortable and practical. When I have the money I do buy from brand-name shops, but I do not think an expensive logo makes anybody a better person. In my opinion you should wear what suits you and what you feel good in, rather than what a magazine tells you is in this season.

Pozor na britsko-americké dvojice v tejto téme: trousers (BrE) × pants (AmE) — a v britskej angličtine pants znamená spodky, takže je to nepríjemný chyták. Ďalej trainers (BrE) × sneakers (AmE) a jumper (BrE) × sweater (AmE). Zdroj tiež píše stripped; správne je striped s jedným „p".
