4. Modelová odpoveď
In Slovakia a typical day starts with breakfast. Between breakfast and lunch we usually have a snack, at midday we have lunch, and in the evening we eat dinner. A typical Slovak breakfast is a slice of bread with butter, ham or cheese and a cup of tea or coffee, although more and more people prefer something lighter, such as cereals with yoghurt and a glass of fruit juice. Breakfast is very important, because it gives us the energy for the whole morning.
For a snack, students usually bring a sandwich or a piece of fruit from home, or they buy something in the school buffet. Lunch is the main meal of the day and it normally has two courses: a soup, for example vegetable, tomato or a clear stock, and then a main dish, usually meat with potatoes, rice or dumplings and some vegetables. In Slovakia it is not very common to cook a hot dinner — most people just eat what was left from lunch, or they have a light snack.
As for my own taste, my favourite food is chicken with rice and a creamy sauce, and I also like sweets and salted crisps, especially in the evening in front of the television. I know that is not exactly healthy. What I really cannot stand is spinach — when my mother cooks it, I make myself scrambled eggs instead.
If we want to be healthy, we should follow a few simple rules: eat at least three times a day, eat smaller portions but more often, eat slowly, and have plenty of fruit and vegetables. We should drink a lot of water and eat more fish and dairy products. On the other hand, we should avoid too much salt and sugar, sweet fizzy drinks, eating late at night, and of course alcohol and cigarettes.
Fast food is very popular, especially among young people. Chains such as McDonald's or KFC sell hamburgers, chips and sweet drinks. This kind of food is tasty and easily accessible, and for busy people it is a comfortable way of eating, because they do not have time to cook or to wait in a restaurant. The problem is that it contains too many calories, too much fat and salt, and eaten regularly it leads to obesity.
Diets are another topic. Young girls especially often go on a diet because they want to be slim, but too much dieting can be dangerous and may lead to serious illnesses such as anorexia or bulimia. Vegetarians do not eat meat or fish; vegans avoid all animal products, including milk, cheese and eggs. People choose this way of eating either for health reasons or for moral ones, because they disagree with the cruel treatment of animals.
Finally, every nation has its own cuisine. Our national dish is bryndzové halušky, small potato dumplings with sheep cheese. Britain is famous for fish and chips and for tea with milk, and at Christmas the British eat Christmas pudding. The USA has no single national dish because it is such a multicultural country, but Americans are famous for steaks and barbecues. In China people eat a lot of rice and vegetables with chopsticks, and Canada is known for its maple syrup.
